Dear Talent Buyer or potential customer:

Allow me to introduce CUBENSIS, a band who for 21 years has performed as the premiere tribute to the Grateful Dead.

Cubensis was born in 1987 out of frustration with the Dead’s too-infrequent appearances in Los Angeles. Currently, we entertain the greater Southwest region, touring constantly from San Francisco to San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and all points in between, but are available nationwide. Beyond headlining outdoor festivals in the area, we've enjoyed extended residencies in Santa Monica (8 years straight) and Huntington Beach (CA), and frequent shows for the House of Blues chain, etc.

The group has been acclaimed for giving new life to the Grateful Dead’s material, bringing in new styles, new innovations, and new jam band fans, while at the same time remaining loyal to the original music and the original fans. With that in mind, they have chosen not to “impersonate” the various bandmembers. Cubensis prefers to use the Dead's music and their own instrumental prowess to create a fun and magical evening for audiences around the country.

Especially exciting are our frequent and highly-anticipated performances in the California market, including Winston’s, the Roxy, Cane’s, and the Belly Up. With the return of the remaining members of the Dead to touring, interest is skyrocketing in this “original” jamband music, and Cubensis is certainly no stranger to improvisational excellence. In fact, they are the only band to have received Jerry Garcia's personal blessing to perform the Dead's songs.

Cubensis is the perfect tribute show for fairs, festivals, casinos and private events anywhere in the country. The band can also perform "unplugged" acoustic sets, upon request.

We would appreciate your consideration in accepting us as a featured performer at your venue or event. To that end, please review this brief presentation, with the usual bio and press-type info, along with our hope that you will recognize the potential for “re-creating the magic” at your venue.

Feel free to visit our website, or our MySpace and investigate our status in the jamband community. You will discover that Cubensis is well respected and beloved by the thousands that have been exposed to our musical interpretation of the Grateful Dead, and that we are able to fill venues and please crowds of all ages wherever we appear.

For 35 years, a musical troupe called the Grateful Dead toured the nation, delighting thousands with their eclectic brand of American rock n’ roll. Sadly, Jerry Garcia and the band are no more, leaving a gaping void of fans desperate for a taste of good ol’ Grateful Dead music.

Now, CUBENSIS brings the Grateful Dead concert experience back to life. Drawing from all eras of the Dead, the band performs a three-hour set of Grateful Dead classics that retains all the spontaneous exploratory jamming for which the Dead were renown. Every show is different. However, the music produced is uniquely Cubensis.

You won’t find the band wearing wigs and fake beards to re-create the Dead experience, unlike Beatlemania. “We don’t strive to play Dead tunes note-for-note,” explains Cubensis guitarist Craig Marshall. “We use the music as a skeleton, and then we flesh it out with our own improvisations. The Dead did that every time they played, and we find it to be a perfect model for our shows. The fans agree. They love hearing the Dead as performed by Cubensis, because it is not an imitation--it is the real deal.”

Cubensis has been pleased to find their most enthusiastic supporters are those who never got a chance to see the Grateful Dead in person, and wonder what they missed. Seasoned “Deadheads” come out to relive the great shows gone by, and as a result, the band is in great demand, performing over 150 shows a year throughout the West Coast. The LA WEEKLY says, “Cubensis plays with the same laid-back mastery as the real McCoy.” The LA TIMES observes, "The set lists are as free and frollicky as the crowd." BIG BROTHER Skateboard magazine describes Cubensis as “the nation’s premiere Grateful Dead tribute” in a January 2002 feature article.

Having performed for 20 years as a tribute act, Cubensis has drawn the interest of several rock superstars eager to jam with the band. Former Grateful Dead keyboardist Vince Welnick (RIP) regularly toured with Cubensis. Black Crowes bandmembers Chris Robinson and Marc Ford have sat in repeatedly, as well as Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule, Barney Doyle of the Mickey Hart Band, and John Molo of Phil and Friends. Cubensis has headlined outdoor music festivals, hundreds of clubs, and has a history of playing extended weekly residencies in Santa Monica (8 years) and Huntington Beach (7 years).

The band consists of the following stellar players: Craig Marshall-lead guitar, Nate LaPointe-rhythm guitar, Larry Ryan-bass guitar, Tom Ryan-keyboards and Steve Harris-drums.

Together, Cubensis pays homage to one of the most successful and well-loved bands of all time, and does so with authenticity and an obvious “deadication” in celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead. Treat your customers to the excitement of Cubensis!
